The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry organised the second edition of the BCC&I Step Forward, a specially curated power talk session of BCC&I’s Lifestyle Committee aiming towards “Good Life − Happy Living”. The second edition was based on “Need of Business Resilience in today’s scenario”. The session was addressed by Mr. Joydeep Sengupta, Senior Partner, McKinsey & Company from Dubai, UAE, Mr. Shyatto Raha, Founder and CEO, MyHealthcare from Delhi and Mr. Sourav Daspatnaik, Managing Director, Swach Environment Private Limited, Kolkata, India on 14th December 2021 through virtual platform.
“The world today is fast evolving and the markets dynamics are getting altered much quicker than they used to. The only way to keep pace with these variations is by stepping out of one’s comfort zone and transforming with the times. An individual or an organisation needs to be process oriented and structured but flexible to change to make the transformation. One also needs to be up to speed with the latest technology, especially digitisation. This edition of Step Forward has been conceived keeping the aspect of adaptability in focus and I am sure the attendees would benefit from the discourses,” said Dr. Rupali Basu, Chairperson, Lifestyle Committee BCC&I and Managing Director & CEO, Woodlands Multispeciality Hospital.
Mr. Joydeep Sengupta spoke about 2 governing thoughts. Firstly, to thrive in the coming decade, a company must develop resilience as it is the ability to withstand unpredictable threats, or changes and emerge stronger. Resilience is not just to survive but to emerge stronger, it is a natural phenomenon, it’s an instinct of competency we all have and also tapping into this understanding is going to be the key. He mentioned that Resilience is an institutional muscle not a plan, this competency is a natural intrinsic business part of us. His second governing thought was that in near future speed will need to arrive not by exception but by design, Speed is likely to be a play a key role in what happens next, to achieve resilience it is imperative that speed you have successfully unlocked during the pandemic becomes a sustainable competency in the future. The speed of action is higher premium over consensus about the action.
Mr. Shyatto Raha said: Every organization has to adopt or adapt changes to ensure business continuity; largely it is led by changing consumerism landscape, competitive landscape and the global environment, in this current scenario, changing product line is very critical to ensure the business continuity. The role of IOT and AI within business operations is growing, enabling new services to try and get better margins and also improve our revenue streams within the organizations. To increase long term resilience, the digital and technology revolution will play a major role. The success will come from those organisations who have struck the right balance between business continuity and business resilience, it cannot be one over the other at any point of time, and the right balance has to be found.
Mr. Sourav Daspatnaik said: Organizations have to create resilient business planning in the entire SOP, while in designing organization, the structure and strategy of the organisation and the business continuity planning in case of a natural calamity and pandemic have to be addressed.
The session gave an understanding of the importance of business resilience with sharper focus in this current scenario as the world is going through a very tough time for almost two years now because of the pandemic and many people have been adversely affected, directly or indirectly. The session was presented by Woodlands Multispeciality Hospital Limited, supported by Ruby Park Public School and Ergo Woodlines Pvt Ltd, and had large viewership.
