BCC&I Annual Corporate Heritage Recognition and Panel Discussion on Industrial Heritage of Kolkata, 28th January, 2022, Virtual platform
The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry, India's oldest institution of its kind, tracing its origins to 1833, under the leadership of the Heritage Committee of the Chamber, organized a first of its kind “Annual Corporate Heritage Recognition 2021−22 followed by an Online Panel Discussion on Industrial Heritage of Kolkata” in association with The Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) on Friday, 28th January 2022 from 4 pm onwards, through digital platform.
BCC&I Corporate Heritage Recognition aimed to bring to the forefront the unparalleled corporate and business legacy of Kolkata of which The Bengal Chamber has been an intrinsic part for close to 200 years. The Bengal Chamber felicitated a few of it’s oldest members, who has been in continuous membership for well over a century. Special commemorative plaques were handed over to representatives of each company.
The Companies who were recognized by the Chamber were:
- Gillanders Arbuthnot and Co. Ltd. − Member since 1853
- Andrew Yule & Co. Ltd. − Member since 1864
- Balmer Lawrie & Co. Ltd. − Member since 1868
- F. Harley & Co. Pvt. Ltd. − Member since 1902
- CESC Limited − Member since 1908
Such corporates who were felicitated have been the source of business and the economy and are very much a part of the business history of this part of the world. The evening also featured an engaging, enjoyable and informative panel discussion on “Industrial Heritage of Kolkata” addressed by distinguished panellists, namely Shri K. Mohan, Director (Personnel), Andrew Yule & Co. Ltd.; Mr. Adika Ratna Sekhar, Chairman and Managing Director, Balmer Lawrie & Co. Ltd.; Mr. Namit Shah, Managing Director, F Harley & Company Limited, Mr. Gautam Ray, Executive Director (HR & Admin.) − CESC Limited & President (HR) − Power Group, RPSG, CESC Limited. The session was moderated by Mr G. M. Kapur, Chairperson, Heritage Committee, BCC&I.
The progarmme was supported by Exide Industries Limited and Caring Minds. The entire initiative was well covered by leading media houses like Times of India, Ei Samay and had a large viewership.
