A Roundtable Discussion on the topic of ‘Low Voltage Smart Power & Appliances (LVSPA)’ was organized on 6th May 2022 by The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCC&I), GOGLA, ITP India and CLASP at The Bengal Chamber premises in Kolkata, West Bengal.

The roundtable was conducted as in−person as well as in hybrid mode. The roundtable included an overall discussion on the status of low voltage appliances and their role in providing reliable and quality power in weak grid areas of India.

The roundtable was attended by twenty−one (21) stakeholders representing 16 organisations. The roundtable was divided into three different sessions: −

• First session included the presentation of low voltage smart power & appliances and sharing of views by BCC&I
• Second session included moderated discussions with the stakeholders on opportunities, challenges, and future of LVSPA in India and
• Third session included the way forward and next step

At the start, Mr. Deb Mukherjee, Immediate Past President, BCC&I stated that the topic was very timely and relevant in the Indian context. There are still challenges in remote part of the country in terms of energy penetration to people at the bottom of pyramid. Low Voltage Smart Power & Appliances, which integrated energy efficiency and renewable energy, would provide energy security to these people, thus advancing the agenda of Sustainable Energy for All.

The moderated session discussed a range of issues pertinent to the subject with the participants.
